UPDATE: Board Votes in Kenneth's Favor, All Eyes on Perry

The Board of Pardons and Paroles today voted 6-1 to recommend clemency for Kenneth Foster. It is now up to Governor Perry to make the final decision. Call him and demand that he do the right thing:

Call 800-252-9600 (Texas callers) or 512-463-1782 (Austin and out of state), and send faxes to 512-463-1849.

do you think calling the governor will convince him make the right decision? i hope he won't answer with the same stupid and out of place sarcasm he used against europe's appeal for a moratorium.... let's keep anyway praying!!!

The lines must be really busy as I'm still holding.
That could well mean they are being flooded with calls about Kenneth.
There is still a chance.
Lets keep going.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry office says he will commute the sentence of condemned inmate Kenneth Foster, who was scheduled for lethal injection Thursday night.

This is wonderful news. Surely Perry cannot ignore the facts of Foster's case and the Parole Board's decision. Everybody keep calling while hope is alive.

If Andrew is right, fantastic.

Look at Perry's website! Kenneth is safe!!!!

It is great that the Board of Pardons & Paroles has voted, overwhelmingly in favor of Kenneth (an extremely rare event). Whoever said the Gov. has said he will commute Kenneth's sentence - that would be great - but that needs to be verified. Keep the phone calls, faxes and emails going to the Governor's office. Do not stop until it is verified that the Governor will act in his favor. Keep up the pressure on the Governor's office! And keep aiming for the ultimate goal of ending the barbaric death penalty worldwide!

Take a look at the last statement made by Governor Perry on his website... ;)

another murderer who will one day walk free from prison and quite possibly move into your neighborhood.

Perry is a dumbazz.

Avenir said...

Yes the Governor DID commute the sentence to life in prison. The notice is on the Governor's website. Please call the Governor and thank him for doing the right thing! It is important that he know that his positive actions can have wide-ranging positive results. While life in prison is more than Kenneth deserves for his part in the crime, that is a future struggle. The big one to save his life has been won so now we can move forward to add fairness to the sentence.

Are you people for real? A convicted murderer has just been given a free pas, he has just been told that there is no such thing as punishment in this country - he will now free super human thinking he can get away with everything. Governor Perry made a grave decision today, he basically released a murderer, terrorizer, gang member, back onto our streets one day. SHAME SHAME SHAME

Lest you forget the murder conviction was only one of many crimes this inmate is responsible for yet unconvicted of. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Then we will see if you sing the same tune.

Our calls, faxes, emails, prayers and protests worked. Gov. Perry commuted his sentence to life in prison.

I am astonished at the support for a cold blooded killer. You people are foolish.

Remember the victims, justice was denied today for Fosters victim.

Sandy...please take your hate and your apparent trolling elsewhere. It's not even worth arguing with you that you're wrong on virtually every point you try to make. We are ecstatic! Finally, a little bit of rationale in an otherwise completely irrational system.

It never ceases to amaze me that supposedly sane people would hope to deny justice to a victim, and on top of it all, hope (and even pray) that career criminals such as this one be set free to committ more crime. I can only hope, that with luck, his next victim will be someone YOU care for.

Congratulation to Kenneth Foster and his family on the great victory
of winning clemency.
It took a lot of voices to be heard
not only from Texas but across the
nation. I am so thankful that clemency was granted. Thanks to our
Heavenly Father above.

my hate? have you looked at the path Kenneth Foster was on at the time of his arrest, surely you haven't if you think I am the one who is hateful and angry, I do not go around jacking people at gun point and shooting at occupied cars. Your buddy Kenneth does that.

He is a career criminal who participated in a cold blooded murder of an innocent human being. I hope he gets exactly what he deserves in general population.

thank you jesus and thank you governor. for sarah, dont find yourself in the same position or onr of your loved ones okay?

dana - I think you possibly meant your last comment for Sandy, not me :)

Um, Sandy, you still are factually inaccurate. Let's see...he didn't shoot at an occupied car, we don't execute people for robbery, and since he was locked up at the age of 19 or 20 with scarcely a prior record, he can hardly be called a "career criminal", at least not in the sense most people understand that term.

If you don't think it is you being hateful and angry, then you really should re-read what you've written and look into therapy. It's not healthy. Channel your animosity into something productive, like knitting. Then you can go out and picket these injustices with a self-knitted banner.
